Which teeth whitening products are the most effective?
Although there are quite a few teeth whitening products, not all of them are really effective. One of the oldest (and still used) whitening methods is baking soda. While it does have whitening properties, the side effects outweigh the desired result. Why? When teeth are whitened with baking soda, the tooth enamel becomes thinner, the teeth become more sensitive, and the gums may bleed.
You have probably been tempted by a toothpaste that guarantees a "dazzling smile". It is quite naive to believe the information presented in the advertisements, however, after about two weeks, you will actually be able to notice changes in the color of your teeth. You may not be able to achieve a stunning result, but you can certainly expect to lighten your teeth a little. However, the biggest problem is that these kinds of toothpaste should not be used for a very long time, as this can lead to tooth sensitivity.
In addition to toothpaste, you can also find teeth whitening strips and gels. Usually, the teeth whitening course lasts two weeks, some products have to be used for just a few minutes a day, others - for several hours or longer. If teeth whitening products are used for a few minutes a day, the bleaching substance does not have time to properly affect the teeth, so you will not achieve an impressive result. Moreover, this method of whitening is not always safe, so before purchasing such products (some of them are really not that cheap), consult a dentist first.
At a dental clinic, you may be offered teeth whitening with a tray or a laser. The first method of teeth whitening is a bit gentler, it is performed in 5-7 days (at night, special trays covered with bleaching gel are placed on the teeth). Laser teeth whitening is performed during one visit, so those who want to achieve the desired result faster often choose this method. In both cases, you can expect really significant changes. No matter which method you choose, it is recommended to perform professional oral hygiene beforehand (this will ensure an even better result). It is also essential to note that all whitening procedures do not provide long-term results by themselves, they often have to be repeated periodically and also combined with regular oral hygiene.
